Do you want to come to Thailand and Teach?

"I want to teach in Thailand! in thailand, in Thailand..." You sprung from your dream. Wide and teary eyed, hair ruffled, & sweat streaming down your cheeks. From then on, you became convinced that only teaching in Thailand is a good remedy to your finances. So check these out. They might help you in one way or another.

1. Consider your skills. By the word SKILL, it means all of what you got under your sleeves, including your talents.

First off, let's begin with the English language skills. We know every language requires 4 types of skills, don't we? So, try to remember those magnificent 4 while you still are in the Philippines. You know better about this. Just kind of reminder for you not to leave this out in your list.

Also, you might want to check your accent. How many accents do you carry when you talk in English? An oral reading practice before your magic mirror really helps. Trust me it pays off especially if you'd visualize it you are increasing your listening and speaking skills.

Why do I ask you to think about these things? Because there are many jobs here but sometimes or oftentimes Pinoys don't fit in the game as Thai would comment, "Mai kao jai. Not same falang." I don't understand him because He doesn't speak like a native speaker.

My only purpose? Gain your advantage over the mediocre ones who do not aspire to be the best they can be by your skills, good and jolly attitude plus of course, your English language facility. No matter what your colors are - be it yellow, orange or green.

Have I left out God is your backer here? If it's so, you would be as funny (worry-free) & compassionate as you can be while giving your best..

Thais in fairness, like "sanook, sanook," which means fun way of studying, to be translated as creativity on our part as teachers in handling ESL.

But before you get me wrong for something else or whatever, let me tell you that a few flops from among our compatriots was due to the failure to bring up to the Thais these skills.

Not to mention that "sometimes" Thais "generally" believe that Native speakers are the sole authority of the English language. Lest you fall on the same trap as our few countryguys suffered, heed  this one up.

Further, you won't be dragging other pinoys into embarrassment

Secondly, do you know how to sing? Can you draw? How big is your voice? Can you play guitar? and many others that are seemingly trivial yet can lift you up when you get yourself to a dead-end here.

We don't pay too much attention to these things when we are in the Philippines. But if you want to gain more income or just to get by for your daily meals while looking for a job, skills can bring it up to you in a silver platter. Sometimes gold is just like mercury here.

So, "Son pi sed." Teach Extra, English literal translation from Thai, really proves to be valuable for Pinoys. You know what I mean.

What has skill to do with Tutoring? You can use your skills to catch their attention for better teaching so they see you as a good teacher or just to snatch a few more minutes when you ran out of ideas to teach before your agreed time but still the same, you will be looked at as a diligent teacher.Sealed Just remember Thais are more less Filipinos in terms of time and attitude.

If you must cheat, I mean, see to it that you give them varieties of ways to learn and you would have an advert for free.

Still on skills. Let's try the social skills.

If you are a loner as your special someone just walked out nowhere, don't bring your hang ups with you as they are more likely to come out in the open by the time you get here and your Thai assistant teacher or even your supervisor or the director himself ask you to dance in the tune of Auld lang Syne in a trick or freak halloween party. Worse, they ask you to dramatise a Romeo and Juliet play at a Christmas party with the Rudolph the red nose reindeer as the blaring background.

That said, if you think you got what it takes to teach English as Second language, mail us so we can give you more ideas and suggestions before you pack your bags and declare, "I finish."

Again, life here is wonderful and exciting only when you look at it that way. Also, of course when you have the skills I mentioned. If not, go for a crash course on everything I mentioned in here for a few months.

Watch for more on this subject later.
